I designed and handmade this piece. Yin and Yang are fundamental concepts in Chinese philosophy. Yin is represented in the black half, while Yang represents the white. Hot and cold. The sun and the moon. Darkness and light. All opposing yet complimentary. The small dot found in each solid half is a reminder that each perceived opposite has the capability of taking on the characteristics of the other.
It is the cold that reminds us of the pleasures of warmth and vice versa. Through acknowledgement of both, we are able to achieve gratitude, peace and balance.
